Skin Disease Awareness

Overview:

The second edition of the Skin Disease Awareness Campaign was conducted with excellent organization, smooth execution, and strong public engagement. All aspects of the event were implemented successfully, receiving highly positive feedback from attendees, participants, and stakeholders.


Objectives and Achievements:

1. Raising Public Awareness
Educating the public about common skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and allergic dermatitis.

2. Enhancing Community Engagement
Promoting available dermatology services and increasing awareness of treatment options.

3. Correcting Misconceptions
Addressing myths and misinformation regarding acne, skincare routines, and medical and cosmetic treatments.

4. Non-Pharmacological Education
Highlighting the role of lifestyle modifications in improving skin health, including diet, hydration, and skincare routines.
Emphasizing the proper use of medications such as Roaccutane, explaining side effects, contraindications, and the importance of medical supervision.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Campaign Objectives:

  • Raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes, and risk factors among the target audience.

  • Promote preventive measures.

  • Encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices and regular breast cancer screening.

  • Emphasize the importance of routine check-ups, particularly mammography screening.

  • Challenge misconceptions surrounding breast cancer and combat stigma related to screening and treatment.


Target Audience:

The primary target audience for this health education activity includes the general public, particularly individuals at risk and those who would benefit from increased awareness and preventive education.


Proposed Activities:

Community Awareness Programs

  • Organizing a community event featuring informational booths, guest speakers, and Q&A sessions.

Distribution of Educational Materials

  • Developing and distributing brochures, posters, and pamphlets in healthcare facilities, community centers, and educational institutions.

Social Media Campaign

  • Launching a targeted social media campaign to reach a wider audience, share educational content, and encourage open discussions.

Mahyan

Overview:

The event Mahyan aims to deliver an educational session highlighting key medical conditions that manifest through distinctive facial features. Certain diseases leave characteristic facial signs that can guide clinical diagnosis even before laboratory investigations are performed.

The session will follow a case-based discussion format, covering examples such as:

  • Thyroid storm

  • Cushing syndrome

  • Fragile X syndrome

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus

  • Beta-thalassemia major

  • Osteogenesis imperfecta

The session will be conducted in an interactive, non-lecture-based style, incorporating discussions and competitions to enhance engagement and learning.

Digital Awareness

Overview:

This campaign aims to raise awareness each month about one or more global public health topics. The initiative includes interactive activities such as competitions and prizes shared through social media stories. Occasionally, both physical and online campaigns are organized for the same topic. The goal is for this campaign to continue annually as an ongoing awareness initiative.

Sulalah

Event Date: February 20, 2025

Organizing Committee: Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH)

Event Name: Salalah (Lineage)


Event Objectives:

  • Raise awareness about genetic disorders and the importance of genetic counseling.

  • Educate the public on the role of genetics in health and disease.

  • Promote early screening and informed family planning.


Methodology and Timeline:

The campaign included awareness booths, interactive posters, and educational games focused on genetics.

Participants engaged with infographics explaining patterns of inheritance, common genetic disorders, and prevention strategies.

QR codes linked to reliable online resources were displayed for further learning.

Volunteers wore event-specific badges and guided visitors through the stations, explaining the content and answering questions.


Outcomes:

Blood Donation Campaign

Event Name: Blood Donation Campaign


Event Objectives:

  • Encourage voluntary blood donation among university students and staff.

  • Educate attendees about the importance of regular blood donation.

  • Support local hospitals and patients in need.


Methodology and Timeline:

A blood donation station was organized in collaboration with a local blood bank.

Awareness activities were conducted prior to the event, including social media campaigns and posters distributed across the university campus.

Medical staff were present during the event to assist with the donation process and answer students’ questions.


Outcomes:

  • Dozens of successful blood donations were collected during the campaign.

  • Increased awareness of the continuous need for blood in medical treatments and emergency cases.

  • Strengthened the spirit of altruism and public health responsibility among students.
